More pressure through league reform

The GFL season is still young, but the upcoming league reform is already changing the weight of early results. With the number of teams set to be reduced, games in the middle and bottom of the table matter more.

For several teams, Week 3 is not just another early-season weekend. It can already shape playoff hopes or relegation concerns.

The South is in focus

The southern division is particularly tense. The Bavaria derby between the Munich Cowboys and Regensburg Phoenix, as well as Straubing’s home debut against Pforzheim, carry extra significance.

Even teams aiming higher must collect points quickly to avoid sliding into an uncomfortable table position.

More tension for the league

For the GFL, this can create a more attractive sporting product: fewer meaningless games, more pressure and earlier benchmarks.

The league reform turns Week 3 into more than a round of games – it becomes an early character test.
